When i have Children of my own i will do everything in my power to make sure my children know how bad drugs are. I will use the same methods my parents use on me and my brothers while we were growing up. For example when we were in Elementary school we were all in the D.A.R.E program that really helped us understand that drugs were bad but more importantly because of D.A.R.E me and my brothers stayed away from drugs. Also my parents would talk to all of us and explain the harms and consequences. Then as we got older and started going to high school my parents knew we had friends that were doing drugs so my parents would use them as a example of my drugs are bad and why we shouldn't do them. I thank my parents for everything they did to keep us informed about the harms of drugs and i will use their methods to help my children understand also.
I agree with your parents method of teaching this is some of the things i will also be using with my children.
ReplyDeleteOur parents are our models and people typically do follow the same parenting styles in which they themselves were raised in, so good for your parents for keeping you on track! As growing humans children will always have the curiosity as to what experience they get out of doing certain things, the most important role a parent has is to support their child even after making mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThat is really great that you had parents like that! Sadly not all parents are like that. That was great thanks for sharing that with us, I know I am going to do everything in my power for my son as well and that was really good advise!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Parents will want to do anything they can to keep their children away from drugs. THe DARE program and having good communication with your parents is key.
